What is Home2 Suites Scottsdale North?
The name does a lot of explaining. Home2 Suites by Hilton Scottsdale North near Mayo Clinic is a 130-suite extended-stay hotel that opened in December 2022 at 20001 N Scottsdale Road, near where the road meets the Loop 101. It’s on the east side of the road, so it’s inside Scottsdale. Every room is a suite with a kitchenette and separate living and sleeping areas. Breakfast is included, and there’s an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a small business center, EV charging and pet-friendly rooms.
The “near Mayo Clinic” in the name refers to Mayo Clinic Hospital, the Phoenix campus on Mayo Boulevard a few miles west. A large share of the guests are patients and family members on multi-day visits who want a kitchen, a washer and a quiet room more than a lobby scene. The rest of the weekday crowd includes consultants, corporate trainers and contractors working the Airpark and the office parks along Scottsdale Road. On weekends, it fills with families in town for tournaments at the Scottsdale Sports Complex and golfers heading to Grayhawk, about 2 miles away.
Who should look elsewhere: anyone after a walkable Scottsdale with restaurants and nightlife (that’s Old Town), or a vacation built around the pool (try the Fairmont Princess or the Westin Kierland). For a week of appointments, though, this is the right kind of hotel in the right place, and it’s one of the newest builds in north Scottsdale.
How to do Home2 Suites Scottsdale North right
Confirm your Mayo campus first. Mayo Clinic has two big campuses in the Valley. The hospital on Mayo Boulevard is a few minutes from here. The Mayo Clinic building on Shea Boulevard in east Scottsdale is a much longer drive. If your appointments are on Shea, stay out there instead.
Stock the kitchenette. The Scottsdale 101 power center, with Target, sits across Scottsdale Road at the freeway, and the Scottsdale Promenade, with Trader Joe’s, is a few minutes south. Add the free breakfast, and most days you’ll eat out once at most.
Use the location for errands, not walks. This is a driving corridor, with freeway ramps, power centers and six lanes of traffic. The upside is that most of the Valley is within reach: the Loop 101 runs east toward WestWorld and DC Ranch and west into north Phoenix.
Time the busy season. From late January through March, Barrett-Jackson, the WM Phoenix Open and spring training fill north Scottsdale hotels. Medical stays don’t follow the event calendar, so book the moment your appointments are set.
Eat nearby. Local Bistro + Bar on Hayden is a reliable neighborhood stop. Kierland and the Scottsdale Quarter are 10 to 15 minutes south for a night out, with a garage at the Quarter that makes parking easy.
The hospital, the freeway and the newest hotel on the corridor
For most of Scottsdale’s history, there was nothing at Scottsdale Road and what’s now the Loop 101 but desert and a two-lane road running north toward Pinnacle Peak. What came next arrived in layers.
The first layer was aviation. The Army’s 1942 Thunderbird Field II trained more than 5,500 cadets and left behind a runway that the City of Scottsdale bought in 1966. As Scottsdale Airport, it anchored the Airpark, which grew into one of the city’s largest business districts and moved the city’s commercial center of gravity north.
The second layer was the freeway. When the Loop 101 reached Scottsdale Road around the turn of the millennium, the desert around the interchange quickly filled with power centers, office campuses and apartments. The city line runs down Scottsdale Road here, so the west side, including Scottsdale 101 and Mayo Clinic Hospital, is in Phoenix, and the east side, including this hotel, is in Scottsdale.
The third layer is medicine. Mayo Clinic’s hospital on Mayo Boulevard turned this part of the Valley into a destination for patients from across the country. Those visits often run for days or weeks, and the families need somewhere practical to stay. That’s the market Hilton built Home2 Suites for, as its mid-priced, all-suite extended-stay brand, and the market that put “near Mayo Clinic” in this hotel’s name when it opened in December 2022.
The money followed quickly. In 2024, less than two years after opening, the hotel sold in a deal arranged by JLL’s hotels group, which also secured acquisition financing from a regional credit union. A quick resale like that is common for newly built, branded hotels in high-demand areas: developers build and stabilize a property, then sell it to longer-term owners.
The result is a hotel with no old Scottsdale lore. What it offers instead is a clear view of how the city works now: an airport turned business district, a freeway turned commercial spine, and a hospital that brings visitors from all over the country to the northern edge of Scottsdale.
