Hotel restaurants are usually where good evenings go to become expensive. ZuZu is the exception: the dining room of the 1956 Hotel Valley Ho, restored in 2005 with turquoise banquettes and a sunken lounge that feel inherited rather than costumed.
The food is approachable retro-American from breakfast through dinner, but the Show Stopper milkshake — a new, absurdly garnished theme every month — is why the phones come out.
When to go: breakfast, when morning light through the original glass does the decorating. Dinner and weekend brunch deserve a reservation.
