Every tourist town has a retro ice cream parlor built last year to look old. The Sugar Bowl has simply been pink since 1958, family-run on Scottsdale Road, with Bil Keane’s Family Circus originals on the walls as proof it was here first.
The hot fudge sundae is the franchise, made from the original fudge recipe, with extra fudge on the side if you ask. The lunch menu exists mainly as a pretext.
When to go: a weekday mid-afternoon. Weekend evenings and anything letting out nearby — spring training, ArtWalk Thursdays — bring a line.
