Must order: Anything smothered in the green chile, ideally on a Sonoran combination plate

Insider tip: Whatever you order, get green chile on it or beside it — and if you're taking food home, the family's nearby takeout-and-cantina spinoff is built for that.

Far north Scottsdale is where restaurant concepts open with a splash and quietly close eighteen months later. Jalapeño Inferno, a family-run Sonoran cantina on Scottsdale Road, has outlasted decades of that churn by doing the Arizona-Mexican canon properly and never getting clever about it.

The green chile is the answer to every menu question. Smothered, stuffed or on the side, it’s the reason the Troon and DC Ranch regulars keep coming back.

When to go: weeknights, when the room belongs to the regulars and the servers who know them by name. Season weekends bring a wait.
