Tiki without the plastic leis. HULA’S runs a scratch Hawaiian-inflected kitchen and a serious tropical cocktail program behind roll-up glass walls that open the room onto 1st Avenue. Plenty of Old Town bars serve food; this is one of the few where you’d come back for the food alone.
Start with the mai tai — it tells you everything about the bar — and the coconut prawns. Then order dinner like you mean it.
When to go: golden hour in the cooler months, when the walls are up and the patio and dining room become one breeze. In summer, the walls come down and the air conditioning wins.
