Long before farm-to-table became a menu font, Susan Wilcox and Becca Windsor were cooking seasonal, herb-driven food out of a 1990s Scottsdale catering kitchen, in a city that mostly wanted a porterhouse. The Herb Box grew into a restaurant, outlasted the trend it predated, and now holds down a courtyard patio on 5th Avenue.
The cooking is bright rather than heavy, which means you leave brunch still functional — a rare outcome in this town.
When to go: a weekday lunch, when the boutique row is quiet and you can hear your table. Weekend brunch draws everyone, so reserve.
