The Valley once had a proper run of Jewish delis, built for the Chicago and New York transplants who moved here. Most of them are gone. Goldman’s, in a Hayden Road strip near Hilton Village, is the one still standing — chopped liver made in-house, gefilte fish in the case, corned beef handled with respect.
The Reuben is the front door, but the plain corned beef on rye is the real credential check, and it passes. Order the soup even in July; the regulars do.
When to go: a weekday morning, when the counter regulars are in full conversation. Saturday brunch hour is the crush.
