The cheapest way to eat at the Westin Kierland is also the most fun: the golf clubhouse grill, where a Scotland-born chef built a menu of homeland favorites with an Arizona twist. Lodge room, rock fireplace, and a dog-friendly patio looking over the fairways toward the McDowells — priced like a neighborhood grill, not a resort.
The Piper’s Ale fish and chips is the order, beer-battered haddock with a pint of the house pale. Nobody skips the sticky toffee bread pudding with Drambuie caramel.
When to go: weekday lunch, after the morning tee times clear. It’s a daytime room — Wednesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM — so don’t plan dinner here.
